[book] joy.

books.

My love of books runs deep.

There is something special about the smell of a bookstore and the thrill of experiencing a new adventure or idea that will shape who I am becoming within a book.

Equally, I love the feeling of creating something new! This book launch party invite that I am sharing with you above is "hot off the press" and it was an item on my to-do list today that made my heart leap a bit with excitement.

I bet you have things that you create day to day that make you feel that way too. From reports to lunches...we are creating all kinds of experiences and items as we move throughout our days.

Creating something that takes more time (and energy...and patience) has its own special joy (and angst!). I get a little pinch myself giddy when I think about the moment that I get to open up the first box of books when they get delivered to my home (which should happen sometime next month) because it represents the culmination of many hours creating and re-creating what became Finding Joy.

You can understand my JOY around combining two of my loves together...books and creating.

Some friends have asked me "where did you find the time to create a book?" and simply stated...I created it. It wasn't always easy or go as quickly as I wanted it to go, but I kept my eye on the end goal and blocked time, prioritized, and also had a LOT of grace when the schedule didn't go as planned and life decided to change my timeline despite my best efforts.

Small steps - consistently - is how it came into creation.

What is sitting on your "someday" list. It may not happen today, but I bet you could make one small step towards it today.

I promise there is joy waiting for you (and maybe a little angst - but it's worth it!).

I hope you come and celebrate with me! I'd love to have you there on June 14th.

With joy,

jamie

p.s. Mattea's Joy celebrated 15 years this week (April 13). More to come in a future email...nostalgia warning!

assembled.joy

SO many great groups gathered at Mattea's Joy this month!

The fantastic staff at Little Me Studio assisted with multiple projects, including care packages, a Bourbonnais Braves baseball team assembled snack boxes, and the MBVM Youth Group helped us stuff water bottles and do a bit of spring cleaning (which was fantastic!).

Thank you to the 4th Grade class at Bishop McNamara Catholic School for choosing Mattea's Joy as the recipient of the funds from their Economic Goods & Services Fair.

I had a chance to visit their classroom to receive the check and chat with them more about the work we do - and, of course, a bit about joy!

Run for joy!

We'd love to have you come and run or walk with us!

We could use your help gathering the names/photos of kids we can honor on the course with a sign.

The interior of the dome of the Duomo in Florence, Italy [cathedral] joy. I have been privileged to see more than a few cathedrals. I studied abroad in Spain during college and passed by a stunning cathedral nearly each day at the city center and had the opportunity to visit many on our weekend trips around Spain and sometimes beyond. One of the classes I took was art history and we would wander the streets of Granada each week learning about the styles of architecture and art that emerged at...

[Target] joy. Sometimes life gives you the best news in the middle of Target. Life keeps moving despite the challenging times and the best of times. I received some really awesome news this past week while standing in my local Target store - Cooper's tumor pathology (our son undergoing Cancer treatment for Osteosarcoma) came back as responding really well to chemo (95% great to be exact!). I cried. happy tears! I called Gary to celebrate from the car. People kept moving along around me and...

[tidy] joy. It feels a bit like spring today (at least where I live - it was nearly 60 degrees). That may have contributed to my thoughts about simple ideas that may spur on a bit of early spring cleaning, or at least a little less cluttered angst. There is joy in having great systems and less “extra” - sometimes that means literal things and often it’s simply too much noise or items in your calender or to do list. Either way, it’s clutter that is hindering you from living the life you love...
