[why] joy?

[why] Discover joy?

A few years ago I felt a nudge to expand my work around joy. Gary and I started Mattea's Joy in 2010 and have served families with hospitalized kiddos with the intent that they would be reminded that joy can be found when life doesn't go as planned. I realized that so many people in my midst were craving that same reminder.

In some ways, I went on my own "joy hunt" - not to figure out how to find joy in my life...I am super thankful that I had honed some of those practices and put them into practice. However, I went on a hunt to find a format to bring others together in a meaningful and authentically connected way around the discussion of joy in their own lives.

I found it!

I am thankful for all of the paths I have been down these past few years - learning, observing, and being a student of joy! I have utilized the format of "public" joy workshops - events where anyone from the public could participate by purchasing a registration (or their company sponsoring them) and providing them an opportunity to take a day to reflect on the joy in their life and build practices around inviting it in more readily.

I have been blown away by the feedback that I have received from these events that I have hosted for hundreds of individuals since I began them that have ranged from "A million books would not be enough to compare to today" (which meant a lot to me as a book lover) to "Today challenged me to move from, 'How do I balance all my commitments so I can survive?' to 'How can I pursue activities that actually help me THRIVE?'".

I want to help more people thrive, flourish, and love the life they live in.

Could I ask for your help? If you know someone who would enjoy a day like this, please invite them. If you think it may be a good fit for your organization and would like to come as a guest to "see what it's all about", please reach out (email me at jamie@matteasjoy.org).

This event was designed to serve others and love to see how each time the right people are in the room.

If you are feeling like you would like to be in the room, registration is closing this Friday, October 25th - check it out! I would love to have you. To learn more and/or register, click HERE.

Use the code "joy" for a surprise discount for those of you feeling the nudge.

The interior of the dome of the Duomo in Florence, Italy [cathedral] joy. I have been privileged to see more than a few cathedrals. I studied abroad in Spain during college and passed by a stunning cathedral nearly each day at the city center and had the opportunity to visit many on our weekend trips around Spain and sometimes beyond. One of the classes I took was art history and we would wander the streets of Granada each week learning about the styles of architecture and art that emerged at...

[Target] joy. Sometimes life gives you the best news in the middle of Target. Life keeps moving despite the challenging times and the best of times. I received some really awesome news this past week while standing in my local Target store - Cooper's tumor pathology (our son undergoing Cancer treatment for Osteosarcoma) came back as responding really well to chemo (95% great to be exact!). I cried. happy tears! I called Gary to celebrate from the car. People kept moving along around me and...

[tidy] joy. It feels a bit like spring today (at least where I live - it was nearly 60 degrees). That may have contributed to my thoughts about simple ideas that may spur on a bit of early spring cleaning, or at least a little less cluttered angst. There is joy in having great systems and less “extra” - sometimes that means literal things and often it’s simply too much noise or items in your calender or to do list. Either way, it’s clutter that is hindering you from living the life you love...
